Uganda’s Ministry of Health has urged the public to remain calm following reports of a confirmed Ebola case in Nigeria involving a Nigerian woman who travelled to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for business.

In a public statement dated October 20, 2026, the ministry said preliminary information indicated that the woman transited through Uganda in early October without symptoms before developing symptoms after arriving in Nigeria. It stressed that travelling through Uganda did not establish that the infection occurred in the country, adding that the source of exposure remained under investigation.

The ministry noted that Nigerian authorities had yet to provide detailed information on the woman’s travel itinerary and clinical history, which would guide further investigations and any necessary contact tracing.

Uganda emphasised that it had no confirmed active Ebola cases at the time of the statement. The ministry said it would work with relevant agencies to strengthen screening and public health controls at entry points, while maintaining limited provisions for humanitarian and diplomatic travel.

The public was advised to practise regular handwashing and sanitising and to follow verified updates through official channels. For further information, Uganda’s Ministry of Health provided its hotline, 0800-100-066, and encouraged the public to send alert SMS messages to 6767 or submit reports through U-Report on 8500.
