The joint venture between Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), through the Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMoU) with communities in its area of operations has spent over ₦20.6 billion on various programmes in Delta and other states.
This was disclosed by the General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs (PGPA) of CNL, Mr. Esimaje Brikinn over the weekend while speaking at the closing ceremony of a two- week training programme for teachers in the Niger Delta region.
Brikinn maintained that partnership remained the core value of Chevron as a company, adding that the money was spent on scholarship, schools, medical facilities, housing, agriculture as well as infrastructure improvement between 2005 and 2018.
Represented at the programme by Mr. Sam Daibo, the company’s Area Manager, PGPA Field Operations, Brikinn, observed that Chevron’s partnership with the Government of Delta State and other states, as well as other stakeholders have made it possible for the company to add significant value to people’s lives through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and community engagement initiatives.
His words: “Between 2007 and 2016, over 2,900 Nigerian students have benefitted from the NNPC/CNL JV national guard scholarship, while Star Deep, a Chevron Company and its partners in Agbami Field have awarded over 16,000 scholarships for engineers and medical professionals since 2009.
“Similarly, over 11,300 students have benefited from NNPC/CNL JV’s community scholarship from 2008/2009 to 2017/2018 academic sessions.”
