Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission has shifted the much expected presidential election at the last minute to Saturday, February 23.
Chairman of the Commission, Mahmud Yakubu, announced the shift in date at about 3.00 a.m. , only a few hours to when the polls should have commenced this Saturday.
Also postponed to February 23 where the elections into the Senate and House of Representatives which were scheduled to hold alongside the presidential poll.
Prof. Yakubu also announced a shift in the date for states’ governorship and houses of assembly polls which will now hold on March 9, 2019.
In announcing the postponements, the INEC Chairman cited logistic difficulties He said a shift in the dates became necessary to ensure that the elections were credible.
