The Federal Ministry of Works has directed construction giant Julius Berger to leave the project site on the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Dual Carriageway, citing non-compliance with revised project terms and a lack of progress. This directive follows a 14-day termination notice issued on Monday, dismissing further negotiations.

According to a statement by Mohammed Ahmed, Director of Press and Public Relations, the decision was made after months of unresolved talks with Julius Berger. The ministry noted that while the Kaduna-Zaria and Zaria-Kano sections are nearly complete, the Abuja-Kaduna portion has only achieved 27% progress in six years.

Works Minister David Umahi previously accused the company of delaying the project. Although a Federal Executive Council (FEC) review approved a re-scoped and cost-reduced contract of N740.79 billion in September, the company did not agree to the revised terms.

This termination marks the 11th contract revocation under Minister Umahi’s leadership in the past 16 months as part of efforts to accelerate infrastructure projects nationwide.
