The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has introduced Operation Go Cashless, a new digital payment system designed to eliminate cash transactions at airports across the country. The initiative will begin at the Lagos and Abuja airports on September 29.
In a statement on Thursday, FAAN said the project, developed in partnership with Paystack, will ensure that payments at airport revenue points—including access gates, car parks, and VIP and protocol lounges—are conducted exclusively through cashless and contactless channels.
According to the Authority, the reform is aimed at improving efficiency, strengthening revenue assurance, and enhancing customer experience for travelers and other airport users. It also aligns Nigeria’s airports with global digital payment standards while minimizing risks associated with cash handling.
To facilitate a smooth transition, FAAN has deployed trained brand ambassadors at airport gates and terminals to assist travelers with onboarding, demonstrations, and inquiries. Passengers will also be able to obtain and activate a FAAN Go Cashless Card at access gates in Lagos and Abuja, or fund it online via the dedicated portal.
“The introduction of this secure, modern payment solution underscores FAAN’s commitment to continuous improvement and global best practices in service delivery,” the statement read.
The agency confirmed that the cashless policy will be gradually extended to airports nationwide in subsequent phases.
