The Lagos State Government has announced a four-week partial closure of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway to allow the Federal Ministry of Works to carry out repairs on damaged sections of the road.
In a statement posted on the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation’s official X account, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the closure will begin on Wednesday, February 11, and run until March 11, 2026.
According to the statement, rehabilitation works will focus on the stretch between U-Turn Bus Stop and Sango Tollgate, affecting both inbound and outbound lanes.
Mr. Osiyemi explained that the repairs will be executed in two phases to minimize traffic disruption. Phase One, scheduled from February 11 to March 4, will affect motorists travelling toward Abeokuta and Sango Tollgate. During this period, traffic from Lagos and Abule-Egba toward Abeokuta will be diverted to one side of the carriageway, while repairs are carried out on the other.
He added that work will be conducted on one lane at a time, with traffic redirected to completed sections as construction progresses.
Phase Two, from March 4 to March 11, will affect traffic heading toward Lagos and Abule-Egba. Vehicles coming from Abeokuta and Sango Tollgate will be diverted through one half of the road to allow repair works on the remaining section.
The commissioner assured motorists that adequate traffic management and safety measures would be put in place throughout the duration of the project. He urged road users to plan their journeys in advance, observe traffic signs, and cooperate with traffic officials.
