Former Kano State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) with immediate effect.

In a statement dated March 29, 2026, Kwankwaso described his decision as difficult but necessary, citing the need for a strategic political realignment in response to the evolving national landscape.

He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve as the party’s National Leader and presidential flagbearer in the 2023 general elections, noting that his time in the NNPP was marked by commitment to a shared vision for national development.

Kwankwaso also appreciated the party’s leadership, including National Chairman Ajuji Ahmed, the National Working Committee, Board of Trustees, and members across all levels for their support.

He further acknowledged members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement for their loyalty and dedication, assuring that collaboration towards national progress would continue despite his exit from the party.

While he did not disclose his next political platform, Kwankwaso indicated that his move is aimed at aligning with a structure that offers a stronger opportunity to drive meaningful change in Nigeria.
