The Federal Government of Nigeria has ordered the release of N1.6 billion to 15 states across the country that have been ravaged by flood.

The order which was given on Wednesday by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo is meant to cushion the effects of devastating floods in parts of the country.

The funds which he said will be drawn from the nation’s Ecological Account at the Central Bank, is to be made directly available to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for onward disbursement to the affected states.

Lagos state, which was hit by a massive flood that submerged cars and houses, tops the list of the beneficiary states.

The fifteen other states that are to benefit from the Ecological fund include Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, Edo, Ekiti, Enugu, Kebbi, Kwara, Niger, Osun, Oyo, Plateau and Sokoto.

Apart from Niger state where floods claimed lives, the other states witnessed massive displacement of families and businesses.
