Nigeria’s prospect of economic recovery suffered yet another major setback today. The Shell Petroleum Development Company has declared a force majuere on its lifting of Nigeria’s premium Bonny Lite Crude.
The declaration according to the company in a statement, follows a leak discovered on the Nembe Creek Trunk Line (MCTL) operated by Aiteo.
SPDC’s statement said: “SPDC declared force majeure on Bonny Lite lifting effective 10:00hrs (Nigerian Time) today due to shutdown of the Nembe Creek Trunk Line (MCTL) by the pipeline operator, Aiteo, following the leak.”
