mr-abraham-ogunmolaAbraham Olaniyi Ogunmola is a versatile and highly resourceful musician, music educator and musicologist. He is extra-ordinarily committed to the art of music. As a teacher, he is a veritable flagbearer of the grand old art and he remains uniquely committed to impacting its knowledge to the younger generations of Nigerians.

Born on May 12, 1965 in the town of Ogbomosho in Oyo State, he attended Baptist College Iwo where he earned the TC II Certificate in 1988. He went on to the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile–Ife in pursuit of his dream course and graduated with a B.A.Ed. Music in 1995. He has gone on to earn professional certificates from Georgia State University, Atlanta, Georgia (2006) and Boston University, Masachussets, USA (2008). In 1999, he earned a certificate in Computer Education from the University of Lagos.

Ogunmola’s experience in the teaching of music is expansive. He started out at Zinnia College, Ikeja, Lagos as a Music cum Yoruba teacher in 1995. He moved on to the Lagos British School, Ikoyi as Music Teacher in 1996.

He later taught the same subject at the American International School, Lagos. In 1995, he founded the Music Language School in Lagos which he still runs today. Between 2008 and 2013, he was Director of Music at St. Saviour’s School, Ikoyi. Since 2013, he has worked as Head of the Music Department of Meadow Hall School, Lekki, Lagos.

Beginning from the year 1990, he has been Choir Master, Church Organist, Director of Music and Music Minister in several churches. These include St. Stephen Anglican Church, Ifewara; Beulah Baptist Church, Ile-Ife; Conerstone Baptist Church, GRA, Ikeja; Yaba Baptist Church, Sabo, Yaba, Lagos and The Redeemed Christian Church of God in Yaba and Lekki.

Abraham Ogunmola has indeed, recorded remarkable achievements in his musical career. He organized the ‘God Bless Nigeria’ 50th Independence Anniversary event at the MUSON Centre, Lagos. He has organised several talent shows, recitals, concerts, Christmas carol sessions and musical productions. He organized and directed the PAN African University Choir in December 2009.

He has many publications on music to his credit. He has presented many academic and professional papers at workshops and seminars on music.

It is in recognition of his contribution to national development in the field of Music Education that Mr. Abraham Olaniyi Ogunmola is deemed worthy to be conferred with the Development In Nigeria Merit Award.
