More Than 250 Boko Haram Suspects Released By Nigerian Army

In celebration of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day, the Nigerian Army has freed 257 Boko Haram suspects detained by the Borno State government.

At the ceremony in Ramat Square, Maiduguri, the Head of the Army’s Counter-Insurgency operation in the North-East (Operation Lafiya Dole), Maj. Gen. Lucky Irabor claimed that the released suspects comprising of men, women and children were proven innocent.

Said Maj. Gen. Lucky Irabor: “After screening them, we found them clean, but we will ensure that they are monitored even after the release. The Army Day celebration have afforded us opportunity to free them to mark the occasion.”

The Borno State governor, Kashim Shettima represented by his Deputy at the ceremony also hailed the priceless work of slain Nigerian soldiers who gave their lives for the country’s unity and peace. He said: “We must be committed to ensure that the labours of our heroes past are not in vain. I appeal to all to contribute in catering for the families they left behind. I commend the Nigerian Military and other security agencies for restoration of Peace to Borno and the North East.”
