The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is to resume its search for oil in the Lake Chad basin before the end of the year.
The Chief Operating Officer in charge of Gas and Power in the NNPC, Saidu Mohammed, disclosed this to newsmen when a group of top management staff of the corporation paid a visit to the Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima at the Council Chambers of the Government House in Maiduguri.
Speaking on behalf of the Group Managing Director of the corporation, Maikanti Baru, Mohammed disclosed that light and heavy-duty exploration equipment are currently being moved into the basin for full oil prospecting.
“We are also in the state to inform you that in the next six weeks, we are going to redeploy our team of experts back to Maiduguri to resume oil exploration with better technology in the Lake Chad Basin,” Mohammed said.
“This is necessary with our renewed efforts in harnessing oil, gas and power to improve the economy of the nation in line with the agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari in job creation and economic diversification,” he added.
He further stated that the corporation will provide full support to the ongoing reconstruction, resettlement and rehabilitation processes ongoing in the state after the devastation wreaked by the Islamic terrorist group, Boko Haram.
