The Federal Government of Nigeria has paid the sum of N375.8 million to 20 whistle-blowers whose information helped security agencies in the recovery of about N11.635 billion worth of looted funds.
The Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun made the disclosure in Abuja on Wednesday.
“This payment, which is the first under the whistle blower policy, underscores the commitment of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration in meeting obligations to information providers under the whistle-blower policy,” Mrs. Adeosun said.
“The policy is an essential tool in the fight against corruption,” she added.
She further revealed that the policy has been amended to include a formal legal agreement between the government and information providers, adding that all the payments were made after the final recovery of assets had been confirmed by the Attorney-General of the Federation.
