The winner of Saturday’s Osun West Senatorial bye-election, Otunba Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke has dedicated his victory to his late brother, Senator Isiaka Adeleke and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the party under whose platform his ambition was realized.
The Senator-elect who spoke in Ede, his country home, said his victory in the election was a testimony that his brother did not die in vain.
“I won the election through the good will of my late brother and that of my family. My brother loved the downtrodden, and he was loved by many. He provided empowerment to people and scholarships to indigent students throughout,” Adeleke said.
“I want to assure the people of my Senatorial District that I will continue from where my brother stopped. It is continuity,” he added.
Adeleke, who decamped to the PDP from the All Progressives Congress (APC) over alleged favouritism by the APC’s hierarchy in preference of his opponent in the election, Mudashiru Hussain, also promised to introduce robust legislations that would improve the welfare of the people, empower women and bring all round development to his constituency.
He commended the Federal and State chapters of the PDP, saying that the party would not relent in its efforts and mission to succeed Governor Rauf Aregbesola of the APC in the state.
It would be recalled that Adeleke won in 10 out of the 11 local government areas in the state, garnering 97,840 votes to defeat Mudashiru Hussain of the APC who polled 66,116 and won only in Eijigbo LGA where he hails from.
