The Supreme Court sitting in Abuja on Monday, upheld the election of Godwin Obaseki of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly elected Governor of Edo State.
The seven-man panel of Justices of the apex court led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, dismissed the appeal lodged by the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the September 28, 2016 polls, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
In a unanimous ruling, the apex court held that both the interlocutory and main appeals lodged before it by Ize-Iyamu lacked merit.
The court however said it would break down its verdict and give reasons why it validated Obaseki’s election on July 4, 2017.
