In what could be seen as a reconciliatory move, the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has extended an olive branch to members who actively participated in the crisis that rocked the party for over a year.

The reinstated Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee of the party, Senator Ahmed Makarfi who was speaking through the spokesperson for the Caretaker Committee, Dayo Adeyeye, told journalists in Abuja on Thursday that the party was ready to overlook the anti-party actions of the affected persons but would not forgive any individual who henceforth participates in any fresh plot aimed at destabilising the party.

Makarfi, while describing the last 14 months as worrisome and a setback to the party, said there was no need to punish the elements behind the setback and called on all those with pending cases against the party to immediately withdraw them.

“No, we won’t punish anyone for what happened in the past. Our doors are open for everyone, including those who are not members of the PDP. It is general amnesty for all. It is when you begin to commit fresh sins or cause fresh troubles that we will then look at it,” Adeyeye said.

“We want to appeal to everybody, those who have cases in courts, to withdraw them in the interest of the party. You can see that everyone is happy because of the outcome of the case,” he added.

Adeyeye further claimed that the current All Progressives Congress-led government was a monumental disaster that has failed Nigerians. He believed the 2019 general elections in the country will be a walkover in favour of the PDP which has been fortified following the Supreme Court’s judgment.
