Dr Florence Adesola Falaiye was born on the 30th of October, 1974. She obtained her first degree in Law (LL.B) from the University of Lagos in 2004. She thereafter proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, Lagos Campus where she was called to the Nigerian Bar on the 8th of November, 2005. She started her legal career with Dokun Makinde & Co. in 2005. In 2007, she returned to the University of Lagos for her post graduate studies in Law and graduated in 2008, obtaining the LL.M. degree.

Learning on the job and being lucky to have expert mentorship, she has risen through the ranks to become the Deputy Managing Director and Company Secretary of Afkar Printing and Publishing Company Limited. Her desire for peaceful co-existence amongst people and peaceful resolution of disputes without necessarily going through the rigours of the court processes made her join the Negotiation and Conflict Management Group (NCMG).

To further pursue this interest, she took and successfully completed the Mediator Skills Training Programme of the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) and became a CEDR Accredited Mediator in 2009. She has been acting as mediator in court referred cases and also participating in the Lagos Multi Door Court House Settlement Week over the years and has so far settled all the cases she has presided over.

Her love for research and her curiosity made her to apply into the Ph.D. program at the Commercial and Industrial Law Department of the University of Lagos. She went through this within record time and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy degree (Ph.D) in Commercial Law in January 2015. The title of her thesis is, “The Legal Framework of Takeovers in Nigeria: A Case for an Inclusive Regime of Stakeholder Interest.”

She has attended trainings both locally and internationally. She is a Member, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Member, Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria (SCGN), Associate Member, Business Recovery and Insolvency Practitioners Association of Nigeria (BRIPAN), Member, Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered) (NIM), Fellow, Association of Corporate Governance Professionals, Nigeria (ACGPN) and Member, Manchester Business School Association. She is also a Council Member of the Business Club, Ikeja and Member of the Lions Club, Ilupeju Diamond Branch.

Her areas of expertise and consultation include, but are not limited to: Corporate/Commercial Law, Corporate Structuring/Restructuring, Corporate Governance, Negotiation and Mediation, Mergers, Acquisition and Takeover, Corporate Secretariat, Administration and Business Support; Regulatory, Compliance and Advisory.

She seeks to affect and enhance her environment and community positively as much as she can. Her guiding principles are hard work and integrity. She enjoys reading, dancing and travelling.

She is married to Prof. Olumuyiwa A. Falaiye, a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Lagos, Nigeria. They are blessed with two children, Adedamola and Atinuke.

It is in recognition of her accomplishments in Corporate Management that Dr. (Mrs.) Florence Adesola Falaiye is deemed worthy to be conferred with the Woman of Merit Gold Award which is part of the 2017 PSR National Awards.
