Liverpool Football Club and Egyptian forward, Mohamed Salah was on Sunday named Player of the Year by England’s Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA), becoming the first Egyptian to achieve such a feat.
The 25-year-old Salah was rewarded for his scintillating performances which have yielded 41 goals in all competitions since joining the Reds from AS Roma last year, helping the team reach the semi-finals of the Champions League as well as securing a top-four finish in the English Premier League.
The dimunitive striker came out tops of a six-man shortlist, voted for by PFA members from the 92 Premier League and Football League teams. The League also included Manchester City’s Kevin de Bruyne, David Silva and Leroy Sane.
Sane did however win the Young Player of the Year Award while Fran Kirby of Chelsea Ladies was named Women’s Player of the Year at the event held at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
Salah, who will be facing his former team, Italy’s AS Roma in Tuesday’s Champions League clash, said he hopes to follow up the recognition he received from his peers by winning a silverware for his team.
“My personal ambition is to win something with the team. I always think about the team. I don’t think about myself,” Salah said.
