Dr (Mrs )Philomena Nnenna Uzoukwu is an accomplished professional. She has contributed immensely to the growth and development of Nigeria’s pharmaceutical sector as Director of Pharmaceutical Services in the Imo State Ministry of Health.
Born in Amaukwu Orodo in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, Mrs. Uzoukwu obtained her West African School Certificate from Ogwa Girls Secondary School, Mbaitoli Owerri in 1965. In 1979, she gained admission into the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) where she bagged a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree.
Buoyed by a burning desire to succeed in her profession, she headed to the University of Ibadan in 1995 where she obtained a Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical sciences.
In 2010, she added a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Benin, Edo State before putting the icing on her academic cake with a Fellow of the West African Post Graduate College of Pharmacists. Mrs. Uzoukwu is an exceptional woman with a vast knowledge of administration, especially in the field of pharmacy.
This pharmaceutical icon of our time began her professional career in 1985 as a humble Superintendent Pharmacist at Pam Pharmaceuticals Ltd in Aba, Abia State. In search of greener pastures, she proceeded to the Department of Pharmaceutical Services of the Imo State Ministry of Health where she worked as Pharmacist at the Imo Central Medical Stores for ten years, between 1989 and 1999.
She was then promoted to the position of Head, Inspectorate in the same ministry, a position she dutifully held until 2002. Between 2002 and 2013, this quintessential professional pharmacist performed meritoriously as Director, Imo State Essential Drugs Services (ISEDS). Until recently, she served as the Director of Pharmaceutical Services at the Imo State Ministry of Health.
A member of several national and international pharmaceutical bodies, Mrs. Uzoukwu is married with children. She loves reading, singing, gardening, travelling and engaging herself in many sporting activities.
It is in recognition of her accomplishments in the field of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Services that Dr (Mrs) Philomena Nnenna Uzoukwu is deemed worthy to be conferred with the Woman of Merit Gold Award which is part of the PSR National Awards 2018.
