England’s Manchester United Football Club were on Monday morning drawn against French champions, Paris Saint Germain in the quarter final round of the 2018/2019 UEFA Champions League.
With just less than 24 hours on from the 3-1spanking they received in the hands of Liverpool, The Red Devils now have to face up to the possibility of dealing with Kylian Mbappe, Edinson Cavani and Brazil’s Neymar.
This will be the first ever competitive meeting between Manchester United and PSG. Man U have not lost against French opposition in European competition since November 2005 when they lost 0-1 to Lille, winning six and drawing two since.
In the round of 16 draw which was held in Nyon, Switzerland, current England Premier League table toppers, Liverpool will slug it with Germany’s powerhouses, Bayern Munchen.
This will be the first in the history of the Champions League that both teams will be clashing with their last match coming in the European Super Cup in August 2001.
Liverpool has lost only one of their last 16 games against German opposition in European competitions, losing 2-4 against Bayer Leverkusen in April 2002 in the Champions League.
In another UCL quarter final match up, Manchester City were pitted against Schalke 04 of Germany. Both teams have also not met in the Champions League. Their last meeting was in the 2008-09 UEFA Cup group stage where Man City won 2-0 away from home.
The remaining quarter final fixtures are:
Atlético Madrid (Spain) v Juventus (Italy)
Tottenham Hotspur (England) v Borussia Dortmund (Germany)
Lyon (France) v Barcelona (Spain)
Roma (Italy) v Porto (Portugal)
Ajax (Netherlands) v Real Madrid (Spain).
