Dr. Garba Dahiru Waziri is a Nigerian Physician whose impressive profile is on the rise. These past few years, he has proved himself to be a quintessential egg head of human medicine and an effective health facility manager.

Waziri is the incumbent Chief Medical Director of the expansive Muhammadu Buhari Specialist Hospital in the city of Kano. He combines this role with that of a Consultant for the Kano State Primary Healthcare Management Board.

His job involves budgeting and planning for all activities for the Basic Health Care Provision Fund in Kano State. He is also involved in the monitoring and supportive supervision of all Primary Health Care activities in the state. Among many other duties, he provides assistance in organizing and facilitating malaria capacity building of health facility staff in collaboration with LGA Primary Health Care Departments. His job also involves the establishment of immunization centres and cold chain system for vaccines protection.

As mentioned above, Dr. Garba Waziri is the Chief Medical Director of Muhammadu Buhari Specialist Hospital. His job however includes budgeting and planning for the managing of both Muhammadu Buhari Specialist Hospital and Khalifa Sheik Isyaku Rabiu Paedriatic Hospital which is also located in Kano.

Waziri today plays a major role in the management of the coronavirus pandemic, COVID-19 in Kano State. He is the Head of the COVID-19 Facility and Clinical Lead at the Muhammadu Buhari Specialist Hospital COVID-19 Isolation Centre. He is also the Deputy Team Lead for the Home Base Care for COVID-19, Kano State.

Garba Waziri’s medical career began at the Usmanu Danfodio University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto where he did his internship between 2002 and 2003. He proceeded to work as Medical Officer at the Paediatric Department of the famous Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, Kano between 2003 and 2006.

Afterwards, he was engaged to work at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital/Ahmadu Bello University Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences. Here, he was a Consultant on infectious diseases and cancer prevention. He was also engaged in teaching consultants, registrars and medical students in aetiopathogenesis of diseases and cancers. He also taught nursing and pharmacy students on aetiopathogenesis of infectious diseases and cancers.

He was appointed as the Chief Medical Director of Muhammadu Buhari Specialist Hospital Kano in 2018.

Born on March 5, 1972, Garba Waziri Dahiru hails from Kano State. Young Garba began his educational pursuit at Fagge Special Primary School Kano where he obtained the First School Leaving Certificate in 1984. He then attended Science Secondary School Dawakin Kudu for his West African Senior School Certificate, WASSC which he bagged in 1990.

He qualified as a physician from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria where he earned his MBBS in the year 2002. He qualified as a Fellow of the National Post Graduate Medical College of Nigeria (FMCPath) in 2014.

Dr, Waziri is obviously a man who has an undying thirst for knowledge. Since the year 2017 for instance, he has undergone many certificate courses at the University of Washington USA Centre for e-learning. These include the Certificate of Leadership in Heath Care Management, Certificate in Epidemiology for Global Health, Certificate in Economic Evaluation for Global Health and Certificate in Project Management for Global Health.

Dr, Garba Dahiru Waziri has done quite a lot in the area of research and research papers publications. Many have appeared in peer reviewed journals, books and official conference proceedings.

He has attended numerous conferences, workshops and seminars which have taken him to different parts of Nigeria and other countries. He has attended international conferences in Germany, Thailand, the United Kingdom and Czech Republic.

Waziri belongs to many professional associations. He is a Fellow of the Association of Pathologists of Nigeria; Member, Medical and Dental Association of Nigeria; Member, American Society for Investigative Pathology and a Member of the International Academy of Pathology.

It is in recognition of his contribution to national development in the field of Human Medicine and Health Facility Management that Dr. Garba Dahiru Waziri was deemed worthy to be honoured with the Nigerian 60th Independence Anniversary Award for Productivity.
