The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has congratulated Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu and Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, popularly known as Burna Boy and Wizkid respectively, over their victories at the just concluded 63rd Grammy Awards.
In a press release posted on Twitter, on behalf of the federal government, the minister wrote:
FG Congratulates Burna Boy, Whizkid Over Grammy Awards.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has congratulated music stars Burna Boy and Wizkid over their Grammy Award victories.
The statement issued in Lagos on Monday, the Minister described the much-deserved awards as fitting rewards for the persistent hard work of the duo.
He said the awards also represented a global endorsement for the Afrobeat genre of music that has propelled Nigeria’s increasing dominance of the music world.
Alhaji Mohammed expressed the hope that the clinching of the prestigious awards by the two music stars would not only spur them to greater heights, but would also serve as a source of inspiration for others.
Beyonce’s Brown Skin Girl which featured Wizkid, won the award for Best Music Video in the annual Grammy Awards, marking Wizkid’s first Grammy.
Also, Burna Boy’s Twice As Tall album won him his first Grammy award in the Best Global Music Album category, which was nominated alongside four others including Malian band , Tinariwen and US band, Antibalas.
Fans and colleagues have been posting their congratulatory messages to the artistes.
Burna boy, while giving his acceptance speech said:
”This is a big win for my generations all over the world. To every African out there, no matter where you are, no matter what you plan to do, you can achieve it, no matter where you’re from because you are a king. Look at me now! Grammy Award winning Burna Boy. Thank you to everyone!!”
