Sokoto Central market is currently engulfed in flames, with the motorcycle section bearing the brunt of the inferno. The fire, which erupted early this morning, has caused widespread devastation, although the exact cause remains uncertain.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported the fire’s origins near a dump site close to the motorcycle section. While the flames continue to spread, efforts to pinpoint the exact trigger are ongoing.
Chairman of the Motorcycles Marketers Association, Shehu Muhammad, expressed the difficulty in assessing the extent of damage as the fire continues to rage. “We cannot quantify the number of motorcycles burnt down by the fire now because the fire is still raging,” Muhammad stated. “But many people lost their shops along with their motorcycles because they could not come in time as the fire started around 6 am.”
Muhammad acknowledged the ongoing efforts of federal and state fire services to contain the blaze but anticipated a prolonged battle before it could be fully extinguished. “But men of the federal and state fire services are currently battling, but I know it will take some time before they can quench it all,” he added.
