President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Temitope Ilori as the Director-General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) for an initial term of four years. The announcement was made in a statement signed by President Tinubu’s media aide, Ajuri Ngelale, on Thursday.
Dr. Ilori brings a wealth of experience to the role, being a senior lecturer in the Department of Community Medicine at the University of Ibadan and a consultant family physician at the University College Hospital, Ibadan. She holds an MBBS degree from the University of Ibadan and is a fellow of the Faculty of Family Medicine, West African College of Physicians.
Additionally, Dr. Ilori has Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Ibadan, and she is currently pursuing a PhD in the Department of Family Medicine and Primary Care at the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa.
Having served as the Commissioner for Health in Osun State from 2011 to 2014 and Chairperson of the Osun State Agency on Control of HIV/AIDS (O-SACA), Dr. Ilori is well-versed in public health management.
President Tinubu expects Dr. Ilori to leverage her extensive experience and expertise to fulfill NACA’s mandate, which includes coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating the implementation of the Strategic National Plan for the control of HIV/AIDS/STDs, as well as mobilizing resources for an effective and sustainable response to HIV/AIDS/STDs.
