The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced that petrol lifted from the Dangote Refinery will be sold at no less than ₦950 per litre in Lagos. The NNPCL spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, disclosed this in a statement on Monday titled, *‘NNPC Ltd Releases Estimated Pump Prices of PMS from Dangote Refinery Based on September 2024 Pricing.’*

The NNPCL clarified that, in accordance with the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), petrol prices are not set by the government but negotiated between parties. It further stated that payments for the September offtake are being made in U.S. dollars, with Naira-based transactions set to begin on October 1, 2024.

The company shared an infographic showing regional price differences, with petrol expected to cost ₦950 per litre in Lagos, up to ₦1,019 in Borno, and ₦999.22 in Abuja, Sokoto, and Kano. In southern states like Oyo and Rivers, the price is projected to be around ₦960 per litre.

The announcement followed a disagreement between Dangote Refinery and NNPCL over fuel pricing. On Sunday, the Dangote Group refuted claims that it was selling petrol to NNPCL at ₦898 per litre, calling the statement “misleading and mischievous.” A Dangote spokesperson, Anthony Chiejina, said formal pricing would be announced by the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales starting in October 2024.
