President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has named Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the Acting Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), following the pre-retirement leave of the incumbent, Dr. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein.
The appointment, announced on Tuesday in a statement by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, takes immediate effect to ensure a seamless transition in managing Nigeria’s treasury and advancing the administration’s treasury policy reforms.
Ogunjimi, a career civil servant and the most senior director in the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), brings over 30 years of financial management experience in both public and private sectors. He has served in key roles, including Director of Funds at the OAGF and Director of Finance and Accounts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
A chartered accountant, certified fraud examiner, chartered stockbroker, and chartered security and investment specialist, Ogunjimi holds a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy and a Master’s degree in Finance and Accounting.
President Tinubu praised Ogunjimi’s qualifications and expertise, stating, “The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation is pivotal to our nation’s treasury management operations. Mr. Ogunjimi’s wealth of experience and notable competence will ensure the continued effectiveness of this vital institution as we advance our economic reform agenda.”
Tinubu also expressed gratitude to the outgoing AGF, Dr. Madein, for her dedicated service to the nation. Madein, who is set to retire on March 7, 2025, upon reaching the statutory retirement age, was commended for her contributions during her tenure.
