Nigeria’s House of Representatives has approved the 2025 Appropriation Bill, setting the national budget at ₦54.99 trillion. The budget, passed on Thursday, February 13, 2025, outlines key allocations to various sectors of the economy.

Breakdown of the 2025 Budget

  • Statutory Transfers: ₦3.645 trillion
  • Debt Servicing: ₦14.317 trillion
  • Recurrent Expenditure: ₦13.64 trillion
  • Capital Projects: ₦23.963 trillion

The capital projects allocation is designed to boost infrastructure development and stimulate economic growth.

This budget approval follows President Bola Tinubu’s proposal to increase the initial ₦49.7 trillion budget to ₦54.2 trillion, citing additional revenues generated by government agencies.

Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, Abubakar Bichi, stressed the need for timely budget submissions by the executive branch. He urged that future budgets be presented to the National Assembly at least three months before the new fiscal year to ensure adequate legislative review and adherence to the January-to-December budget cycle.
