Dr. Kalu Olua is a seasond physician . With a medical career spanning over 20 years in Nigeria and the UK, he serves as the visionary Medical Director and Consultant Psychiatrist of Cedarcare Hospital, Lagos.
At Cedarcare, he is not merely practicing medicine, but he is also masterfully transforming the landscape of mental health services in Nigeria. Olua is a specialist renowned for his deep expertise and gentle approach in managing complex conditions, including addictions, depression, sex therapy, and developmental disorders such as autism and ADHD. He provides renewed hope and dignity to countless patients.
Dr. Olua’s academic and professional qualifications are comprehensive and internationally recognized, underpinning his dual expertise in clinical medicine and health facility management. He obtained his degree in medicine and surgery (MBBS) from the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan. He completed his postgraduate medical training through the Guys, Kings & St. Thomas training scheme (London Deanery), earning the prestigious Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych). He is registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) and is on the General Medicine Council (GMC) specialist register in the UK, further demonstrating his adherence to global standards. He is also an Affiliate Member of the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine, UK, and a Fellow of The Institute of Management Consultants (FIMC) in Nigeria.
His extensive work experience across two continents highlights his exceptional skills in both clinical practice and high-level health facility management. Dr. Olua held various Consultant Psychiatrist posts in the National Health Service (NHS) and private hospitals in the UK, including Kent & Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust (KMPT) and The Huntercombe Group (THG). Significantly, he also worked as a Forensic Medical Examiner (FME) for the British Police Force in various constabulary across the United Kingdom. After 18 years in the UK, Dr. Olua returned to Nigeria in 2019 to co-found and lead Cedarcare Hospital as its Medical Director, and he is also a co-founder of Cedarcare Foundation, a charity that provides funds for free medical care, health education, and psychiatric consultation for the less privileged in Nigeria.
His efforts focus on delivering specialist psychiatric care, implementing international best practices in hospital administration, and providing vital charitable services to uplift vulnerable communities. His unwavering dedication inspires transformative change in mental healthcare delivery.
It was in recognition of his Sterling Contribution to Nation Building in the Sphere of Human Medicine And Health Facility Management that Dr. Kalu Olua was deemed worthy to be conferred with the Nigerian Achievement Award.
