The Kebbi State Government has expressed deep sorrow over a tragic boat accident in Yauri Local Government Area that claimed the lives of 14 people, mostly women, after a wedding ceremony.

The incident occurred in Gumbi village, when an overloaded boat carrying wedding guests capsized while returning from escorting a bride to her husband’s home in Ngaski Local Government Area.

Governor Nasir Idris commiserated with the bereaved families, the Yauri Emirate, and residents of the area, describing the incident as a painful tragedy.

Speaking through the Yauri council chairman, Abubakar Shu’aibu, the governor urged families to remain steadfast and accept the loss with faith.

“More than 100 people were on the boat when it overturned. Sadly, 13 women and a child lost their lives,” Shu’aibu said.

He added that the victims had been buried according to Islamic rites, with prayers offered for their souls and comfort for their families.
