The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the results of last Saturday’s Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with the All Progressives Congress (APC) winning five of the six chairmanship seats.
INEC declared APC candidates victorious in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Abaji, Bwari, Kwali, and Kuje. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured its only win in Gwagwalada Area Council.
In AMAC, incumbent chairman Christopher Maikalangu was re-elected, while APC candidates also clinched victories in the other four councils.
INEC officials described the elections as largely peaceful, though turnout was reported to be low in several areas. Security agencies were deployed across the territory to ensure order during the polls.
Reacting to the outcome, APC leaders hailed the results as a sign of growing support in the FCT.
The elections covered all six area councils—Abaji, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Kwali, and AMAC—and also filled councillorship positions across the territory.
