Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has filed a ₦1 billion suit against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over the alleged illegal search of his Abuja residence.
In the suit filed on February 20 through his lawyer, Oluwole Iyamu (SAN), El-Rufai challenged the validity of a search warrant issued on February 4 by a Chief Magistrate in the Federal Capital Territory.
He is asking the court to declare the warrant null and void, arguing that it was vague, defective, and lacked probable cause. He said the February 19 search of his home on Aso Drive violated his rights to dignity, liberty, fair hearing, and privacy.
El-Rufai also wants all items seized during the operation returned and any evidence obtained declared inadmissible. He is seeking ₦1 billion in damages for alleged trauma, humiliation, and reputational harm, as well as ₦100 million in legal costs.
The ICPC, the Nigeria Police, and the Attorney-General of the Federation are named as respondents.
