The National Assembly will reconvene plenary sessions on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, amid expectations that the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2026 may be considered for passage.
In a statement, Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, said “the Senate and the House of Representatives will reconvene plenary sessions at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, 17th February 2026,” adding that crucial national issues would be discussed.
Observers link the emergency sitting to the recent release of the 2027 election timetable by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
A separate notice from the Clerk of the Senate, Emmanuel Odo, said the directive was issued by Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, urging lawmakers to reschedule engagements for full attendance.
The House of Representatives, through spokesman Akin Rotimi, confirmed the sitting, noting that it was necessitated by the “constitutional and national significance” of the election timetable.
Originally, the Senate was to resume on February 24, while the House planned to return on February 17. The joint resumption underscores the urgency of concluding work on electoral reforms.
