President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the procurement of additional military hardware to strengthen the operations of the Armed Forces of Nigeria in the ongoing fight against insurgency and terrorism across the country.
The disclosure was made by the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, after a high-level security briefing with the President.
Musa said the meeting provided an opportunity for the service chiefs to brief the President on current military operations and the prevailing security situation nationwide.
According to him, the discussions allowed the President to gain direct insight into developments on the ground, noting that recent media reports have not fully reflected the scope of military operations against terrorist groups.
While acknowledging that there have been recent attacks in some parts of the country, the defence minister said the armed forces have continued to respond decisively, neutralising several high-ranking militant commanders and recovering assets belonging to insurgents.
He also paid tribute to soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty, describing their sacrifice as regrettable but reaffirming the military’s determination to secure the country.
Musa urged Nigerians to remain patient and supportive, noting that terrorist groups often intensify their activities during the period of Ramadan.
He expressed confidence that with the approval of additional military equipment and improved coordination among security agencies, the armed forces would prevail in the fight against terrorism.
