Troops of the Nigerian Army have foiled an attempted mass abduction of more than 150 travellers by suspected Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State.

The incident occurred along the Buratai–Kamuya axis, where troops under Operation Hadin Kai were providing security escort to civilians when they came under attack. The insurgents reportedly attempted to seize the travellers and force them into the bush.

In a swift response, the troops engaged the attackers and called in reinforcements, successfully repelling the assault. The terrorists were forced to abandon their mission and fled the scene under pressure from the advancing soldiers.

All the travellers were rescued unharmed and moved to safety.

However, during the pursuit of the fleeing insurgents, some soldiers sustained injuries after encountering an improvised explosive device. The affected personnel were evacuated for medical treatment.

Military authorities praised the troops for their bravery, noting that the operation highlights the army’s continued efforts to safeguard civilians and combat insurgency in the North-East.
