President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the establishment of a dedicated support fund for members of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, including personnel wounded in action and families of fallen soldiers.
The President made the announcement on Sunday as part of activities marking his 74th birthday, describing the initiative as a tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and service of military personnel.
According to the President, the fund will provide targeted support to injured service members, as well as widows, widowers, and children of those who lost their lives in the line of duty. He directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to create a special account for the initiative.
Tinubu also pledged to donate all his salaries since assuming office as seed funding for the programme, underscoring his commitment to the welfare of members of the armed forces.
He called on state governors, members of the National Assembly, the private sector, and other well-meaning Nigerians to support the
initiative, noting that further details will be released in due course.
The President emphasised that caring for military personnel and their families is a national obligation, not an act of charity, adding that those who risk their lives for the country deserve sustained support and dignity.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of service members and ensuring that their sacrifices are adequately recognised and rewarded.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
