Former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has declared his intention to contest the Delta North senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Okowa made the announcement in Asaba after receiving a delegation of political leaders and stakeholders from the Delta North Senatorial District (Anioma), who urged him to return to the National Assembly.

The delegation, led by Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme, included lawmakers, government officials, and party leaders from across the district. They unanimously called on the former governor to contest the seat, citing his experience and track record in public service.

Responding, Okowa said he was moved by the show of unity and confidence, noting that he could not ignore the collective appeal of the people. He accepted the call, describing the senatorial bid as a joint effort with the people of the district.

Okowa previously represented Delta North in the Senate before serving two terms as governor, and his return bid is expected to shape political alignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
