United States First Lady, Melania Trump on Monday underwent kidney surgery at Walter Reed National Military Centre near Washington DC.

According to a statement released by her office and signed by Stephanie Grisham, the First Lady’s Communications Director, the embolization procedure to treat Mrs. Trump’s malignant kidney condition was successful.

“This morning, first lady Melania Trump underwent an embolization procedure to treat a benign kidney condition. The procedure was successful, and there were no complications,” Grisham said in the statement.

“Mrs. Trump is at Walter Reed National Military Medical Centre and will likely remain there for the duration of the week. The first lady looks forward to a full recovery so she can continue her work on behalf of children everywhere,” it added.

President Trump remained at the White House during the operation on his 48-year-old wife but is expected to visit her later.

The surgery is coming barely a week after Mrs. Trump announced her official platform to improve the welfare and well-being of children through her “Be Best” campaign.
