A gang war between two rival cult groups on Asaoku Street in the Mushin area of Lagos  has left many persons injured and some buildings and shops containing goods worth millions of naira burnt to ashes.
   
While the circumstances that led to the fracas have not yet been ascertained, findings by People & Power reveal that the fight might not be unconnected to a show of superiority between members of the rival gangs.

   
The clash which was unchecked for nearly an hour saw the gang members wielding cutlasses, bottles, axes and other dangerous weapons to attack innocent bystanders and onlookers as residents scampered for safety.

One of the groups reportedly poured petrol and kerosene on some shops which apparently belonged to members of the opposing gang and set them ablaze, an action which sparked more violent reactions.
   
As at the time of filing this report, a combined team of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command and the Lagos State Fire Service were at the scene of the clash to put out the fire and restore calm to the area.
