The Federal Government of Nigeria says that beginning from the 2020 fiscal year, only verified constituency projects in the country would attract payments from the nation’s treasury.
A total sum of N275.678 million had been provided for the Federal Ministry of Special Duties to verify all zonal intervention and constituency projects nation-wide for payment authorization.
Additionally, another N240.671 million was budgeted for the purchase of project motor vehicles for Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) activities while N100 billion was set aside for the controversial constituency projects in the 2020 budget.
Buhari had said that the huge funds expended in constituency projects could not be accounted for but legislators debunked the claim, saying that they only identified projects to be implemented in their constituencies and that Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) were the ones mandated to implement them.
