One of Nigeria’s most outstanding novelists, Chukwuemeka Ike has passed on.
The novelist died on Thursday in Anambra State at the age of 88. Until his death, he was the traditional ruler of Ndikelionwu Community in Orumba Local Government Area of the state.
Ike also distinguished himself in the world of learning .He was the first Nigerian to serve as the Registrar of the West African Examinations Council. He also served as Registrar of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He once was a visiting professor to the University of Jos.
His most celebrated novels include : Toads for Supper (1965), The Naked Gods (1970), The Potter’s Wheel (1973), Sunset at Dawn (1976), Expo ’77 (1980), The Bottled Leopard (1985) and Our Children Are Coming (1990).
