A Pegasus Airlines plane today skidded off the runway and broke apart while landing at Istanbul’s Sabiha Gokcen Airport.
The Pegasus Airlines plane was carrying 177 people and six crew members, many of whom were injured.
The Turkish transportation ministry confirmed that there were 177 passengers on board and that there had been no fatalities although 52 of the passengers were injured.
“There has been no loss of life, the injured passengers are being evacuated off the plane to hospitals,” Turkish Transportation Minister Cahit Turan said.
The plane caught fire after landing, and ambulances and rescue teams were at the scene to rescue passengers.
The plane was landing in heavy rain after flying in from the western province of Izmir, Turkish media reported.
