The city of Kano was tense this morning as members of the Shiite Islamic Movement of Nigeria clashed with the Kano State Police.
The clash which erupted around the Tamburawa area on the outskirts of the city of Kano, is belied to have claimed over 12 lives including a police officer. People and Power gathered that the conflict emerged after the police tried to stop a Shiite protest.
Heavily armed Mobile Police men have now cordoned off the area and the Kano-Zaria road has been temporarily shut down.
The Islamic Movement of Nigeria had earlier accused the Nigerian Army of planning to stop its members from going to Kano from Yobe.
