In a bid to secure the coveted position of the 10th Senate Presidency, Senator Godswill Akpabio has expressed optimism in gaining the necessary support from Senators-elect across party lines. The former governor of Akwa Ibom conveyed his confidence during a visit to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, where he led Senators-elect from various political parties. The purpose of the visit was to seek the endorsement and support of the Lagos State Government for his bid to become the next Senate President.

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is currently facing pressures from different quarters regarding the reconsideration of its zoning arrangement. Notably, Vice President-elect Senator Kashim Shettima, a South-South governor, and other influential figures are making efforts to ensure the party’s preferred candidates secure the desired positions.

Last week, the APC National Working Committee (NWC) announced its selection for the 10th National Assembly, designating Akpabio as the Senate President representing the South-South region, Jibrin Barau as the Deputy Senate President from the North-West, Tajudeen Abass as the speaker from the North-West, and Benjamin Kalu as the Deputy Speaker from the South-East.

Akpabio assured that the Senators-elect would collaborate with Governor Sanwo-Olu and others to ensure the success of Lagos State. He emphasized the importance of supporting the incoming administration of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, highlighting its national significance and the benefits it would bring to Nigeria.

Governor Sanwo-Olu praised the Senators-elect for their sense of responsibility and expressed his support for their aspirations.
