Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu will go on medical leave starting Wednesday to continue treatment, according to a statement from his spokesperson Richard Olatunde.
During Akeredolu’s absence, Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa will assume acting governor duties.
Akeredolu, a prominent lawyer who previously led the Nigerian Bar Association, began a second term as Ondo governor in February 2021 after winning reelection in October 2020.
However, his second term has faced challenges due to an undisclosed medical condition. He spent months overseas for treatment before returning to Nigeria in September, when he recovered in Ibadan.
