The Federal Government has extended its condolences to the people and government of Borno State following the devastating floods in Maiduguri and surrounding areas, caused by the overflow of the Alau Dam.

The flooding has led to widespread destruction, damaging homes, infrastructure, and displacing numerous families. In a statement on Tuesday, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, expressed the government’s sympathies, particularly to those who lost their homes and livelihoods.

He assured residents of the federal government’s commitment to providing relief, stating that President Bola Tinubu has directed ministries and agencies to collaborate with Borno State to mobilize resources for urgent assistance.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, especially those who have lost their homes and means of livelihood. We deeply empathize with their pain during this trying time,” Idris said.

The federal government also emphasized confidence in the resilience of Borno’s people, noting their history of overcoming adversity, and expressed belief that, with national support, they will recover from the disaster.
