The governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the political party under which he emerged as senator and later secured the governorship. The announcement came in a post on his verified X account late Monday, accompanied by a copy of his resignation letter dated November 4, 2025.
In the letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde — the ward that covers Ede North Local Government in Osun — Adeleke stated that his decision was prompted by the ongoing crisis within the national leadership of the party. “Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party with immediate effect,” he declared.
Governor Adeleke expressed gratitude to the PDP for granting him the platform to serve the people of Osun. He recalled his tenure as Senator representing Osun West from 2017 to 2019, and later his election as Governor of the state under the PDP’s banner: “I thank the Peoples Democratic Party for the opportunity given to me for my election as Senator and as Governor of Osun State under the PDP.”
Although the resignation letter is dated November 4 and indicates that the ward chairman formally received it on that date, Adeleke only made the matter public through his X post this week. At this time, he has not disclosed whether he plans to join another political party or will contest future elections as an independent.
