The Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has dissolved the State Executive Council in what is seen as a move to give his administration a fresh start.
The governor also appointed a new Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, weeks after quietly relieving the former CPS, Nelson Chukwudi, of his duties.
In a statement signed by Nzeshi, the governor directed all commissioners and special advisers to immediately hand over their responsibilities to permanent secretaries or the most senior officers in their respective ministries.
The statement read:
“His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, Governor of Rivers State, has dissolved the State Executive Council.
“His Excellency, the Governor, has therefore directed all Commissioners and Special Advisers to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries or the most senior officers in their Ministries with immediate effect.
“His Excellency further expresses his deepest appreciation to the outgoing members of the Executive Council, wishing them the best in their future endeavours”.
The governor also expressed gratitude to the dissolved cabinet members for their service, noting their contributions to the administration.
