The Federal Government has begun evacuating Nigerians willing to leave Iran, escorting them across the border into Armenia as tensions escalate in the Middle East.
Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said officials of the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran are coordinating the process and assisting citizens who wish to depart.
She added that the evacuees are being escorted to the Armenian border to ensure safe passage.
The move follows military strikes on Iran by the United States and Israel on February 28, which triggered retaliatory attacks and raised fears of a wider regional conflict.
Dabiri-Erewa said no Nigerian in Iran has been affected by the hostilities, adding that embassy officials remain at the border to assist those leaving the country.
