President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed all political appointees seeking elective offices in the 2027 general elections to resign on or before March 31, 2026.
The directive, issued in a circular signed by George Akume, applies to ministers, advisers, assistants, and heads of federal agencies and parastatals.
According to the statement, the order aligns with the Electoral Act, 2026, and the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for party primaries.
The President said the move is aimed at ensuring transparency, compliance with electoral laws, and a level playing field for all aspirants.
All affected officials are required to submit their resignation letters through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation before the deadline.
