Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been re-elected as Governor of Ekiti State after emerging victorious in the governorship election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
INEC declared Oyebanji winner on Sunday in Ado-Ekiti after he secured 319,224 votes, defeating his closest challenger, Wole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 40,543 votes.
The candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Oluwadare Bejide, finished third with 12,872 votes.
According to the final results announced by the State Collation Officer, Oyebanji won in all 16 local government areas of the state, recording a statewide sweep across both urban and rural voting centres.
INEC said a total of 384,940 voters were accredited for the election out of 988,251 registered voters. Of the 382,109 votes cast, 6,332 were rejected.
The commission subsequently declared Oyebanji winner, having satisfied the constitutional requirements for election as governor.
